The town of Sarzana
Sarzana is a municipality of about 22 000 inhabitants in the province of La Spezia, in the region of Liguria and bordering on the region of Tuscany. Its welcoming historic centre is still surrounded by the ancient city walls and has two gates at each end: Porta Parma and Porta Romana. Not far from the latter is the Firmafede fortress, also known as the Cittadella, where various events, festivals and concerts are hosted each year. Of particular artistic importance are the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta and the Pieve di Sant'Andrea. Besides the beauty of the historical centre, Sarzana is known for the Festival of the Mind (festival delle mente) held every year in September, the National Antiques Exhibition and the characteristic Soffitta nella Strada.
